Heidi is originally from Florida, now settled in southern Western New York. She is a lifelong animal lover of horses, cats, and dogs.
She attended Alfred State to study business administration; she holds veterinary technician certification and apprenticed in the pet grooming field to learn the craft, which she has now practiced for more than 13 years . Heidi is currently operating her own business, Mellowdea Pet Spa, which offers grooming, daycare, and boarding services.
Heidi has been breeding German Shorthair Pointers (GSP’s) for three years, adhering to the strictest breeding standards for the quality and health of the dog as the utmost priority. Although fully competent in the show ring, where she has handled many dogs to champion status, Heidi has chosen a different path in breeding. Uniquely, Heidi is breeding her pointers specifically to recapture the original breed specifications for hunting and field work as opposed to show ring preferences; for example, Mellowdea Kennels GSP’s will have a larger, blockier head.
Heidi is one of the few North Americans to own Caucasian Ovtcharkas.
